Big Money

Idolism is big money right? No joke! But there is something else, something closely related to idolism that makes even bigger money. In fact, I just finished a 2500 word uni essay on it.

I'm talking about:

ADVERTISING!

It probably all started since I watched the May 12th episode of Naruhodo High School where they were talking about the prices of different types of advertising.

Fans of Japanese Idols should be familiar with these advertising trucks that lights up at night right? They cost 2,000,000 yen for a week, that's about $23,000 USD (a brand new small car).

What about the massive advertising screen at Shibuya?

A 15 second ad playing 30 times a day costs you 100,000 yen. 15 second x 30 =  7.5 minutes. Imagine a job where you work for 7.5 minutes and earns you about $1200 USD. Man, I'd love to design those ads.

I did a little more research after I finished my essay (because I'm that keen), nah this stuff is really crazy. I actually don't mind starting up an advertising company down this barren land and start making BIG money. Anyway I came across this site, which lists all the prices of a variety of transportation/traffic advertisements, from trains to stations, buses to taxis, this site has it all listed. Train advertisements are further divided into sub sections of train lines, types of trains (express, metro or JR). This is serious business!!

Just to give you a little taste as to how serious these ads are, these are the different types of ads available for trains (highlighted in pink)

While we're at it, why not take a look at the ones available for train stations?

There is a whole lot more from the site itself, so if you're interested go check it out: http://www.transit-ad.com/

Oh one last thing, how much do you think this 8.9m x 12m poster cost?

Answer: 13,000,000 yen for a 2 week period, let's see, so thats over $150,000 USD, I wouldn't mind buying a new house every fortnight, do you? By the way my kami-oshi is Yukirin :3
