Inspired

It's been almost one whole year since I've had my last design class. My brain has pretty much melted into mush, but at the same time, been stuffed with, and now overflowing, AKB48 related material. A couple of days ago, I started snooping around some of my old friend's design blog, and it gave me quite a powerful injection of inspiration. The result is the typography poster (above). I'm quite horrible when it comes to writing so it might sound a bit cheesy, but hey, I tried.

Starting out as a designer really is a difficult task. I've seen many talented friends who have given up because their tutors find their works lack in taste. But then I came across to this poster, which was really the reality of all realities:

This actually reminds me of how AKB48 started with an audience smaller than the number of performers...to now, recognized by people worldwide. Stealing another quote from my friend's blog:

“It is ordinary to fail but extraordinary to persist. Which path will you take?”

I've always had an interest in Typography, even before university started, but there was something, something very hard to explain, that was limiting my creativity.

Today, I finally understand what they mean when they said "tutors set the rules, but it is up to you to break them". Anyone can follow a set of rules, but it is up to yourself to display your talent and individualism. It is also hard work and persistence that pays off. I can't get over the fact that I keep relating my path as a designer to AKB48. But it's true, what they were, and what they have become, is an example of hard work and perseverance. The girls have continuous days lacking in sleep and hectic schedules, yet they keep going to follow their dreams. They have really inspired and motivated me to do the same.
